With the switch on July 1, 2021 to the new GlobalProtect VPN system, members of the UNL community who rely on the VPN may need to take additional steps in order to access e-journals and other online resources.
There are three ways to access UNL Libraries online resources from off-campus.
Option 1: Use the UNL Libraries catalog or A-Z list.
You can search the catalog for a particular journal, ebook, or article title.
You can use the A-Z list to access resources by database or publisher platform.
Option 2: Rewrite the link to include UNL’s proxy prefix.
This will provide full-text access to materials the UNL Libraries subscribe to.
There are two ways to do this:
- In your browser's URL/search bar, manually add http://libproxy.unl.edu/login?url= at the start of the link you are trying to access. (for example, https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/10.1080/00094056.2005.10522259 becomes http://libproxy.unl.edu/login?url=https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/10.1080/00094056.2005.10522259)
- Install the UNL proxy bookmarklet, which will rewrite links for you with a single click.
Option 3: Install the LibKey Nomad browser extension.
Once you set up the app on your browser, it will show an icon whenever full-text access to an item is available through the UNL Libraries.
It would be helpful to have a link/pointer here to the site for downloading the VPN client.
